Brief Information and Context of the Job

The SGBV Officer will be in charge of SGBV of the project implemented in the fields under Plan International Ethiopia and collaborate with local government offices, community, service providers, facilities (OSCs/PHCUs, schools, TVETs, police, law enforcement bodies), CSOs, zonal and woreda level multisectoral cluster coordination, SGBV committee, community associations operating in the regions mentioned above. The role will require technical guidance and support from SOYEE advisor, closely working with Plan International Ethiopia’s Technical advisors on SRHR, Gender and inclusion specialist, cash specialist, MEAL coordinator, economic empowerment officers, SGBV specialist, program quality team, area managers, operations team who provide support to the quality program delivery. The position will be based at the districts of Amhara and Afar regions of Plan International Ethiopia.

Duties and Responsibilities

Safeguarding Children and Young People (Safeguarding) and Gender Equality and Inclusion (GEI)

  • Understands and puts into practice the responsibilities under Safeguarding and GEI policies and Plan International’s Code of Conduct (CoC), ensuring that concerns are reported and managed in accordance with the appropriate procedures.
  • Ensures that all staff signed safeguarding policies;
  • Implement Plan International’s global policies for Safeguarding Children and Young People and Gender Equality and Inclusion are fully embedded in day to day work.

Required Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Educational Qualification and Experience

  • Bachelor degree in SRH, public health, social work or sociology

Experience

  • A minimum of 3 years of demonstrated experiences in the areas of SGBV.
  • Clear understanding of relevant policies, strategies and national SGBV strategic plan, guidelines of SGBV and SRHRiE in Ethiopia for SGBV prevention and responses
  • Strong partnership and networking skills, lobby and advocacy.
  • Extensive knowledge of SGBV, SRH issues and protection from violence.
  • Extensive knowledge of minimum friendly service standards and packages, case management guideline, interface between gender transformation and SGBV issues
  • Understand organisational principles, systems and have the ability to provide effective coordination and support to staff working at community level.
  • Understanding of survivor-centered and participatory approaches to development, child-rights programming, participatory Monitoring, Evaluation and Research systems and processes preferred.
  • Knowledge & understanding of Plan’s vision, mission and values.

Skills

  • Conceptual and strategic thinking skills.
  • Hands-on SGBV response including social healing skills
  • Interpersonal skills, including the ability to build relationships with colleagues
  • Have good writing and oral communication skills, including presentation.
  • Understands budgetary processes including planning, monitoring and reporting.
  • Ability to proactively lobby, evidence-based advocacy (EBA) and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to analyse information, evaluate options and to think and plan strategically
  • Proficient in computer skills and use of relevant software and other applications
